Janssens fit ses \u00e9tudes primaires et secondaires \u00e0 Anvers o\u00f9 il \u00e9tait n\u00e9 en 1903. Inscrit \u00e0 la Section de philologie classique \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Li\u00e8ge, il y fut proclam\u00e9 docteur en 1925. L&rsquo;ann\u00e9e suivante, il obtenait le titre de licenci\u00e9 en histoire et litt\u00e9ratures orientales, en 1929 celui de docteur. Il avait suivi l&rsquo;enseignement de son ma\u00eetre A. Bricteux en arabe, en h\u00e9breu, en persan et en turc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il poursuivit ses \u00e9tudes d&rsquo;orientalisme \u00e0 l&rsquo;Oriental Institute de Chicago, o\u00f9 il \u00e9tudia, sous la direction de Martin Sprengling, la litt\u00e9rature syriaque, qui devint sa v\u00e9ritable sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9. C&rsquo;est dans cette discipline qu&rsquo;il pr\u00e9senta sa th\u00e8se d&rsquo;agr\u00e9gation de l&rsquo;enseignement sup\u00e9rieur (1937). La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, il succ\u00e9dait \u00e0 son ma\u00eetre pour l&rsquo;enseignement de l&rsquo;arabe, de l&rsquo;h\u00e9breu et du turc.\u2028 En 1946, il fut choisi par l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 Libre de Bruxelles pour les cours de langue h\u00e9bra\u00efque et de langue syriaque. C&rsquo;est \u00e0 cette discipline que se rapportent la plupart de ses travaux. Mais on doit aussi \u00e0 H. Janssens des publications relatives \u00e0 la litt\u00e9rature arabe, \u00e0 Avicenne, \u00e0 la Bible et au juda\u00efsme.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">H\u00e9ritier de la tradition p\u00e9dagogique de ses pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseurs, H. Janssens enseignait les rudiments de la langue turque en dix le\u00e7ons. D\u00e8s le d\u00e9but de l&rsquo;\u00e9tude de l&rsquo;h\u00e9breu, les \u00e9tudiants apprenaient \u00e0 lire les premiers chapitres de la Gen\u00e8se, la deuxi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e le Livre de Jo\u00ebl. C&rsquo;est \u00e0 travers des proverbes que s&rsquo;\u00e9tudiaient la morphologie nominale et la morphologie verbale de l&rsquo;arabe. Tr\u00e8s vite, l&rsquo;\u00e9tudiant \u00e9tait confront\u00e9 aux textes les plus vari\u00e9s et parfois les plus difficiles\u00a0: <em>Ta&rsquo; abbata Sharran<\/em>, Avicenne, <em>Les Colliers d&rsquo;Or<\/em> de Zamakhshari. \u2028Ses anciens \u00e9l\u00e8ves et ses anciens coll\u00e8gues ont conserv\u00e9 le souvenir \u00e9mu d&rsquo;un homme et d&rsquo;un savant que distinguaient les qualit\u00e9s de modestie et de d\u00e9licatesse.
