Founded in Liège on October 15, 1929, the Société liégeoise de Musicologie, which is a continuation of the activities of the former Société de Musicologie founded in 1910, is involved in musicological research and in the development of the musical heritage of Belgium. The Society holds meetings, conferences and colloquia, and the proceedings of these events are published in the Revue de la Société liégeoise de Musicologie.
The Revue de la Société liégeoise de Musicologie
Founded in 1935, the Bulletin de la Société liégeoise de Musicologie was established with the purpose of promoting and preserving the musical heritage of the ancient Principate of Liège and more broadly in the Belgium of today. Through biographical articles, institutional studies and transcriptions of scores, the Bulletin has become over the years the principal source for musical studies in this area. In 1995, the Bulletin de la Société liégeoise de Musicologie changed its name, becoming the Revue de la Société liégeoise de Musicologie when responsibility for publication was taken over by the University of Liège. Philippe Vendrix and then Christophe Pirenne took charge of editorial responsibilities, assisted by musicologists from other universities in the country. The purpose of promoting and preserving the musical heritage of the region has not changed; to this has been added to intention of publishing the most innovative these and dissertations.
