This paper joins the ongoing research area on Andrea Mantegna’s linguistic use. It presents the artist’s correspondence and its content, and it focuses on the palaeographic analysis of the different types of writing detected, as well as on their corresponding paragraphemic and punctuation systems. Such an analysis, along with some other “external” considerations, allows to identify the different hands operating and, secondly, to distinguish the autographical documents from those ideographical.
