Meeting n°8: Online-Meeting ‘Crossing Boundaries’
(Basel)
The 8th general meeting of the ‘Crossing Boundaries’ project, originally planned in Basel, took place via Zoom, because of the current Covid-19 situation. The team members from Basel, Liège and Turin discussed the next steps for the project, with a special focus on the digital methods and tools. Stephan Unter (PhD candidate) presented very promising preliminary results regarding the automatic detection of hieratic signs (and sequences of signs) using machine learning techniques on data tagged with LabelMe by the project members. Stephan Unter further gave the team a demonstration of the first functional version of the Virtual Light Table, which can be now tested by Crossing Boundaries members! Finally, we discussed the pros and cons of different strategies for long term preservation of our research data: DaSCH appears to be the most adequate solution and contacts are already made to explore the importing options.
