Les rapports scientifiques les plus spécialisés ont été édités dans cette série, située à l’opposé de toute entreprise commerciale ou pédagogique. Elle fut créée et conçue par Marcel Otte et Michel Dewez, en 1971 et a atteint près de 150 volumes. Sous la direction de Marcel Otte, pendant près d’un demi siècle, elle a fait partie intégrante du Service de Préhistoire de l’Université de Liège, dont elle a constitué un fleuron du Patrimoine parmi de nombreux autres dont le Musée de Préhistoire et ses vastes collections. La série ERAUL a édité des recherches de très haute tenue, en dehors donc de tout réseau à vocation mercantile. Elle a comblé un vide littéraire à vocation exclusivement scientifique.
